Job Description

The Corporate Engagement Program (which encompasses our shareholder advocacy work) aims to influence the business community to support reproductive healthcare, rights, and justice in four areas of corporate activity: insurance, benefits, public policy positions, and political spending. Our shareholder advocacy program facilitates engagement between investors and the management of publicly traded corporations to advance this agenda. We also produce research and publications aimed at companies, investors, and policymakers, such as Hidden Value: The Business Case for Reproductive Health, blogs, op-eds, and other materials.

To date, the program has advanced its goals largely by working in collaboration with a network of institutional investors and through our research and publications. This program is expanding to bring our business case for reproductive and maternal health directly to state and federal policymakers as well.

THE ROLE:

The Senior Associate will report to and work in close collaboration with the Director of Corporate Engagement and will work in the following areas:

Advocacy. Contribute to the shaping and execution of Rhia's advocacy strategies. Reach out to corporate leaders to advance our business case and advocate for specific improvements in corporate policies. Bring the investor perspective to elected officials and other public policymakers. Help increase support for shareholder proposals.

Research. Monitor state and federal legislation to identify opportunities for action. Research topics related to reproductive and maternal healthcare policy, reproductive rights, reproductive justice, insurance, corporate responsibility, and more.

Relationship management. Develop and maintain relationships with experts in the field, peer organizations, corporate managers, institutional investors, lawmakers, and others. Represent Rhia in working groups and other collaborative efforts

Programmatic communications. Develop fact sheets, toolkits, issue briefs, op-eds and other materials for diverse audiences including corporations, investors, lawmakers, advocacy partners and the public. Represent Rhia Ventures at external events.

Management and supervisionWork with and supervise interns as needed. Collaborate with our communications manager on media outreach and external communications.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 5 years work experience on policy issues in government, nonprofit or corporate sectors in roles such as legislative aide, corporate affairs, human resources strategy, management and strategy consulting, advocacy/social movement building
  • At least a working knowledge of reproductive rights and healthcare, and reproductive justice
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to develop and adapt messages for different audiences and contexts
  • Project management skills including the ability to deliver on time
  • Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence others to act
  • Experience gathering and synthesizing research and data from diverse sources – online, oral interviews, academic, media, etc.
  • Sound judgment and sensitivity to represent Rhia authentically to diverse constituencies and cross-sector contexts
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently
  • High comfort level with Google Suite and MS Office, and social media apps
  • Enthusiasm for exploring the implications of intersectionality and the reproductive justice agenda on our work
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

In time, occasional travel will be involved. We would prefer to hire in the Bay area or the Boston area but will consider all applications.
